Mumbai: More accusations of corruption charges against the BMC have cropped up as the residents of the locality in Versova, that houses Kapil Sharma’s office, have alleged that the BMC officials rampantly take bribes from all building owners to give permissions to regularise illegal construction.

Residents of the area claim that almost all houses have added at least a couple of floors to the original plan of the building as the BMC turns a blind eye to the problem in exchange for money.

Mihir Verma, who frequents the area for business said, “All plots in this area were given at 100 sq feet initially. Construction of maximum of two floors is allowed as per my knowledge. But all bungalows have a built up area of upto 2000 square feet, with illegal vertical and horizontal extensions.

Apart from Kapil Sharma’s apartment, the BMC sought action against only one other apartment in that area in July. The building is presently under construction and shut.

Dinesh Halde, who works at White Feather Films, an acting academy near Kapil Sharma’s house said, “I have worked here for the past three years, and I have never seen the BMC come and demolish any construction. It took action against only two houses in July, and one of them was Kapil Sharma’s building.”
