MET red alert in Kannur, Kasargod and Wayanad

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Met department on Saturday sounded red alert in Kannur, Kasargod and Wayanad for next 24 hours.

Extremely heavy rainfall up to 204 mm per hour predicted for the three districts.

Following the prediction of extremely heavy rainfall, authorities warned of flood like situation in some places.

Landslides and other natural calamities are also expected. People have been advised to be on guard.

Orange alert has been sounded in six districts- Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode- with very heavy rainfall forecast on August 11. Oange alert is als there for Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur , Kasargod ditricts on August 12, Malappuram and Wayanad on August 13, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad on Augus 14.

The districts with orange alert expected to get very heavy rainfall 115 mm to 204 .5 mm.

Meanwhile, extremely heavy rainfall was reported in following places;  Vadakara 30 cm, Ottapalam 29 cm, Hosdurg 22 cm, Vythiri , Irikkur 21 cm each.

Heavy to very heavy rianfal was reported in Kolilandy 19 cm,Mahe, Pattambi, Thrithala 18 cm each, Karipur , Amabalavayal 17 cm each, Angadipuram and Perinthalmanna 16 cm.

The Met department strong winds ranging 44-55 kmph likely along the coast.

IMD says the rainfall intensity will taper off on Saturday in southern parts of Kerala. The possibility of high-intensity rain in north Kerala is also low.
