Inflows into Cauvery in Tamil Nadu touch 85,000 cusecs

KRISHNAGIRI: The inflow into the Cauvery river of Tamil Nadu has touched 85,000 cusecs due to huge discharge from the dams in Karnataka.

The central water commission office established at Biligundulu of Krishnagiri and which monitors the water received in Cauvery by the lower riparian state has recorded the inflow as 85,000 cusecs on Saturday afternoon.

This would further increase because of continuous discharge from the Kabini dam having a storage level of 2,282 feet, just two feet to reach its full storage capacity of 2,284 feet.

According to official data released here, the inflows into Kabini dam was at 1,12, 511 cusecs and the outflow was maintained at 1,03,083 cusecs.

The surplus discharge from Kabini was 77.979 cusecs on the previous day and it went up to 1,03,083 cusecs.

However, no big discharge was made from the KRS dam, another source of Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu. The outflow level was slightly increased to 491 cusecs from 424 cusecs on Friday when the dam got huge inflows from two other Karnataka dams Harangi and Hemavathi.

In Dharmapuri, the waterfalls areas and the path leading to that place in Hogenakkal of this district are covered by flood flows. Entry into the river and coracle services for the picnickers was banned till the situation returns to normal.

The people in the low lying areas were asked to move to safer places.

Few teams with the staffs of various government departments were formed and they monitor the situation.
