Hyderabad: If everything goes as per schedule, 25 government hospitals will start issuing Aadhaar cards for newborn babies  from the month-end under the “Happy Babies Telangana Babies” scheme. Under the Telangana Sishu Aadhaar Project, newborns will be issued Aadhaar card, birth certificate and if needed, birth defect registration free. These will be placed in the digital locker.

The scheme is expected to help the health department keep track of the babies through immunisation and school admission. It will also help the government monitor delivery of welfare and health-related benefits to  infants, and become a database of children for timely and assured delivery of services.

GHMC additional commissioner (IT) Surendra Mohan, said, “This system was introduced in  Petlaburj Government Maternity Hospital on a pilot basis and is delivering good results.” He said the individual hospitals have to provide infrastructure for issuing of the certificates.
