BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the Lokayukta Court in Shivamogga to examine whether the present Member of Parliament B.S. Yeddyurappa, during his tenure as deputy chief minister, had recommended Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) to allot sites in Shivamogga under special category to four people.

The court passed the directions while disposing the petition filed by Mr Yeddyurappa, and others, including his daughter S.Y. Arunadevi, questioning the summons issued against them over a case related to alleged irregularities in allotment of sites by the KHB.

A city based advocate in Shivamogga had filed the complaint before the Shivamogga Lokayukta Court alleging that while Mr Yeddyurappa was Deputy Chief Minister four sites were allotted by KHB at its layout in Kallahalli-Vinobha Nagar to Krishna, Shivashankar, Manjunath, and Sandesh Gowda by flouting rules. He further alleged that the beneficiaries were close to Mr Yeddyurappa, and later Arunadevi purchased these sites. The complainant alleged that Yeddyurappa allotted the sites by misusing his power.

The Lokayukta court has also been directed to review whether the complainant has to seek prior sanction from competent authority to prosecute Mr Yeddyurappa in the case. Till then the court has said that the statement by the complainant before the Lokayukta court stands suspended, and also told to maintain status quo with regard to four accused in the matter.
