Hyderabad: In one year, 581 kids rescued

During an interaction with the rescued kids, the team identified five cases where the victims were sexually abused.

Hyderabad: As many as 581 children who were forced into child labour works, rag-picking, begging and those who were missing from their homes were rescued by the Smile teams of Cyberabad police commissionerate in a span of one year.

During an interaction with the rescued kids, the team identified five cases where the victims were sexually abused and booked cases against the perpetrators for the investigation.  

Cyberabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said that the teams were formed to rescue the vulnerable children aged below 14 years employed at commercial establishments and forced into rag-picking and begging. “I hope there would be no need for these teams and all the children stay safe with their parents,” said the commissioner.

The commissioner appealed the public to share information through Dial 100 of WhatsApp on 7901115474 if they notice any underage child working or in a vulnerable condition. The police would rescue the children and provide them rehabilitation and care, Mr Sajjanar said.

The police 368 boys and 213 girls had been rescued in a year from June 18, 2018.
