Telangana Forum Against Corruption starts awareness campaign

According to the Forum, the RTE Act states that school education should not be for profit purpose.

Hyderabad: Telangana Forum Against Corruption has initiated a campaign to create awareness among parents against school fee hikes and donations. The Forum says collecting donations by schools and colleges is illegal in AP and TS and the minimum punishment is three years in jail. According to the Forum, the RTE Act states that school education should not be for profit purpose. Schools that don’t give receipts for donations collected can also be booked under the Telangana Educational Institutions Act 1983, Section 7(3), said Vijay Gopal, founder of TFAC.

He further told this newspaper, “Telangana Educational Institutions Act 1983, Section 7(3) says that a receipt must be provided for every kind of fee collected by the school management. Non adherence to any provision of the Act attracts minimum imprisonment for three years, going up to seven years and should return 10 times the money collected as donations. Schools can be booked u/s 188, 418 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code for violating the rules.”
