Hyderabad: A paddy farmer attempted to commit suicide in front of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s camp office at Pragati Bhavan on Tuesday.

The CM is kind enough to farmers across the state and is helping them, but nothing is done for farmers in our district. I only wanted to meet him and explain my woes, so that he will provide a solution for our problems,” he told DC.

RDO of Suryapet S. Mohan Rao visited Mr Saidulu’s home in Gumpula hamlet of Tirumalagiri village, Chivvemula mandal and inquired about his financial conditions. It was discovered that Mr Saidulu and his father had leased around 10 acres of land for paddy cultivation.

They had taken a loan from a private bank to buy a tractor without applying for government subsidy. The tractor was not running and the monthly installments on the loan kept mounting and the crop died for lack of water.

The family also borrowed a huge sum of money for the marriage of Saidulu’s elder sister recently.

Much troubled and depressed, Mr Saidulu wanted to meet the Chief Minister and explain his situation and felt abandoned when he was turned away.
