Bengaluru: In a show of strength, JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda on Monday inducted two former legislators from Nagamangala into his party to take on rebel party leader, N Cheluvarayaswamy, who represents the constituency

Welcoming  Mr L R Shivarame Gowda and Mr Suresh Gowda into the JDS, he advised them to work together to help it win the Nagamangala seat in the assembly, while taking a dig  dig at Mr Cheluvarayaswamy, who is organising a massive rally in Nagamangala on April 14.

Without mentioning him by name, he told the former MLAs,  “I hear that a massive rally will be organised on April 14 and 15,000 kg of mutton has been bought for it. But you can organise an even bigger rally.”

Claiming that only a regional party could protect the state’s interests, he, however, acknowledged that it was difficult for regional parties to come to power or even survive. “But in future a situation could arise when all Cauvery water from the state is released to Tamil Nadu. A decision on this will be taken in a month or two. Only a regional party can safeguard  the interests of the state,” he said.
