Thiruvananthapuram: Vigilance director N. C. Asthana has taken strong exception to the statement made by Mr K. P. Satheesan, Vigilance special prosecutor in the bar bribery scam, that there was a move to save former finance minister K.M. Mani from the charges. Mr Asthana has  given a letter to  home secretary Subrata Biswas against  Mr  Satheesan saying that   he  should have abstained from making the  statement which is  contempt of court  as any discussion  on  the case has been forbidden by the  High Court.

The Vigilance had submitted a report at the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court acquitting Mr Mani  for the third time on March 5.  Later, Mr Satheesan  said  that there was  a conspiracy to save Mr Mani and that some prominent persons  were involved in it. Mr Satheesan claimed that  the Vigilance director has been misinformed as  no court had  stated that the Vigilance case should not be discussed in public. “I reiterate that there is enough evidence  against Mani and that prosecution charges should have been initiated against him,”  said  Mr Satheesan.
