Chennai: Rs 8 lakh worth gold seized at airport

Chennai: Customs officers at the Chennai Airport seized a total of Rs 8 lakh worth gold weighing 225 grams on Saturday.  Mohammed (33) from Chennai had arrived from Kuala Lumpur on Saturday morning.

Intercepted on suspicion, a search into his baggage was conducted even though he had attempted to leave via the green-channel, without declaring anything during the customs check.  

During the search, the officers found gold hidden inside the wheels of the skating shoes which he had brought from Malaysia. The gold was seized and he has been detained.
