UK doctors perform 15 paediatric heart surgeries free of cost

Healing Little Hearts collaborates with Andhra Hospitals to conduct the 27th Free Paediatric Cardiac Surgical Camp

Vijayawada: A team of doctors from UK-based Healing Little Hearts, along with Heart and Brain Institute of Andhra Hospitals performed 15 paediatric heart surgeries free of cost as part of their 27th Free Paediatric Cardiac Surgical Camp.

Chief of Children’s Services Dr. P. V. Rama Rao said the camp had been held from December 4 to December 9 wherein Dr. Serban Stoica, a paediatric cardiac surgeon from University Hospital Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, UK, performed 15 free heart surgeries along with Andhra Hospital's cardiac surgical team led by Dr. Dilip.

The surgeries addressed complex conditions, such as TGA, TOF with absent pulmonary valve, TOF with DORV, repair of Ebstein's anomaly, partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, FONTAN surgery, coarctation of the aorta and pulmonary valve replacement.

Dr. Rama Rao said that their institute has performed over 3,500 cardiac surgeries for the past eight years. Healing Little Hearts and the UK team have been an integral part of these efforts, he underlined.
