Telangana: MMTS phase-II to ease public transport

The SCR is expecting the commencement of MMTS services in Tellapur-RC Puram and Secunderabad-Bollarum-Medchal by this month-end.

Hyderabad: As there is an unanimous opinion among various government agencies to improve the public transport system in the city, South Central Railway (SCR) has completed two corridors of MMTS-II. Another corridor, which is reported to be one of the largest, will be commenced in three months. SCR took up six corridors in the second phase of Multi-Model Transportation System (MMTS), including Secunderabad-Ghatkesar (via Moula-li), Secunderabad-Medchal (via Bollarum), Tellapur-Ramachandrapuram, Falaknuma-Shamshabad (via Umdanagar), Moulali-Sanathnagar and Moulali-Seethafalmandi.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has already completed the works of Tellapur-Ramachandrapuram corridor (5.75 km) and Secunderabad-Medchal-Bollarum corridor (28 km). In both the corridors, SCR completed the doubling works and electrification. The Tellapur-RC Puram corridor will allow passengers to travel from Secunderabad to RC Puram via Lingampally. Quadrupling works have almost completed on 12.2 km stench between Moulali and Ghatkesar. M. Uma Shanker Kumar, chief public relations officer of SCR, said that the first two corridors under the MMTS-II are getting ready. “We are waiting for the app-roval from the commissioner of rail safety,” he said.

He said that the corridor between Secunderabad, Moulali and Ghatkesar will be available in three months. “RVNL has already established two exclusive lines for MMTS on the corridor from Moulali to Ghatkesar and electrification works have also been completed,” he said. Passengers will have MMTS services up to Shamshabad in phase-II. The SCR is expecting the commencement of MMTS services in Tellapur-RC Puram and Secunderabad-Bollarum-Medchal by this month-end.
