Thiruvananthapuram: Light Metro board to meet soon

The DPRs of the project had to be revised according to Centre's new metro policy.

The residents of Nidamanuru, Ramavarappadu, Besant Road and other areas in the city were happy with the announcement of Light Metro Rail project in the place of Metro Rail proposed by the government.

Thiruvananthapuram: After eight long months, the special committee formed by the government to study the feasibility of the revised Detailed Project Reports (DPR) of light metro projects at Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram, has submitted its report. Sources said that board of Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation Ltd, the Special Purpose Vehicle  formed by the government for the implementation of the light metro projects, will meet soon to decide on the project.

"Once the board approves, the decision will be placed in the cabinet for the final approval. Once the council of ministers approves, the DPRs will be submitted to the Centre," said the official. The state government formed a committee headed by secretaries of PWD, transport and finance department to study the project reports around eight months ago.

The DPRs of the project had to be revised according to Centre's new metro policy.

The estimated cost of the projects has gone up following the revisions.
