Hyderabad: The men who are usually booked for cyber crimes are mostly well educated ones and often known to the victims. Although many women muster the courage to come forward and lodge a complaint, there are still a large number of them who are oppressed and forced to put up.

“Almost 90 per cent of the girls do not come forward with the issue fearing the consequences. They fear that their parents will ground them or will not let them continue with their work, or social and family embarrassment,” said a senior official of She Teams, adding that no matter who ends the relationship, the girl is always vulnerable.

The excessive possessiveness comes out in a relationship and one becomes a control freak. Mostly, these are the causes for a relationship to end but the possessiveness does not stop even after that. The man gets disappointed and starts threatening the woman to stay with him, failing which he resorts to character assassination on social media, Purnima Nagaraja, a consulting psychologist, said.

When the woman concerned rejects or shows disinterest, it becomes a prestige issue for the man and he ends up either harming himself or the woman, the consulting psychologist said.

Recalling one such incident she came across with her patients, Nagaraja said that after repeated attempts to win the woman back and getting beaten up in the process by her family, the man uploaded her obscene pictures on social media and was later arrested for the offense. “Once the relationship ends, it is very important for one to accept it and move on instead of being stuck and going to extreme lengths to ‘win her back’” she said.
