Krishnagiri: The relatives of a groom who met with a fatal accident three days before his wedding, gifted his organs, giving life to seven people after he was declared brain dead.

On Monday, doctors of a private clinic in Tiruchy removed the heart, lungs, liver, kidney and eyes of T. Viswanath after his relatives agreed.

On August 28, Viswanath of Sanamangalam village near Bagalur of Hosur, met with an accident at Mookandapalli on the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway. He fell down from his two-wheeler after hitting a stray dog that was crossing the road. He was first taken to a private clinic in Hosur and then shifted to another hospital in Tiruchy. There, he was declared brain dead in the early hours of September 4.

Thiyagarajan, a 60-year-old farmer and father of Viswanath agreed to gift his organs after the doctors explained  about the need for organ donation to save other lives.

“My son met with the accident three days before his wedding was to take place. He was returning home after giving invitations to his friends in Bengaluru,” a grieving Thiyagarajan told DC.

The heart and lungs were sent to hospitals in Chennai and the other organs were implanted in those admitted in hospitals in Tiruchy.

This is the second incident of organ donation reported in Krishnagiri district in a matter of two days.
