THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The met department has declared red alert for Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur for August 10.

The districts where red alert has been sounded are expected to get extremely heavy rainfall, more than 204 mm, in next 24 hours. With heavy rainfall predicted for the subsequent days as well, the possibility of flooding and land slide has increased.

Orange alert has been sound in Pathamanthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kasrgod and on August 11 in Ernakulam, Idduki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod district. Orange alert will continue in Enrakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad on August 13.

The districts where orange alert has been declared will have isolated to heavy rainfall from 115 mm to 204.5 mm. While rainfall is expected to subside after August 13, a fresh spell of extremely heavy rainfall is likely to happen from August 15.

Alathur in Palakkad received the highest rainfall on Friday. The rainfall recorded in Alathrur was 398.5 mm.

The other centres which received heavy rainfall include; Ottappalam  - 335.6, Kollengode -  319.8, Mannarkad - 305.0, Vadakara - 300.0, Palakkad - 293.1,  Ambalavayal -259.4, Chittur - 235.0, Manjeri - 233.0, Pattambi - 231.2, Perinthalmanna - 214.0, Thrithala - 213.2 , Munnar -205.2 Cochin International Airport – 212.7 mm
