Hyderabad: The Institute of Preventive Medicine, which carries out the testing, stated that the samples have to be collected by health and water officials and sent to them. IPM’s Dr Amrinder Reddy said, “We carry out tests in the institute. We do not go and collect samples. The institute received a report that a sporadic case was reported but no further investigations were carried out.”

Further investigations would allow for chlorination tablets and also awareness to be created in that area. Dr K. Shankar, superintendent of Fever Hospital, explained, “Reports have been sent by the hospital to the epidemic cell, district medical and health officers, director of health and also the surveillance department. All of them have been alerted.”

But no action has been taken at the grassroots level. It may be recalled that four cases of cholera had been reported to the Fever Hospital raising public concern over water contamination in the city. Doctors stressed it was not an epidemic.
