Hyderabad:The Hyderabad Traffic Police launched a special drive on Wednesday to penalise vehicle owners who have not registered the transfer of ownership. Police seized as high as 350 vehicles on Day 1.

These vehicles were  taken to the Goshamahal stadium and will not be released until the actual owner gets the vehicle registered in his name and produces the document to the traffic police.

DCP Traffic (Traffic) A.V. Ranganath told mediapersons that the traffic police  has launched an online application on its website to facilitate the seller and buyer meet again and transfer ownership.

“Motorists can enter their name, address- phone number and the registration number of the vehicle they have purchased or sold. If two entries — that of the buyer and the seller — match, they can meet and complete the transfer of ownership. We are creating an intermediate platform for the motoristsm.” Mr Ranganath said.

He said the RTA was simplifying the procedure so that transfer of ownership could be completed  quickly. What if a motorist deliberately avoids updating his details so as to escape e-challan? “The traffic police will seize such vehicles,” Mr Ranganath said.
