Hyderabad: A five-year-old girl studying in UKG died in suspicious circumstances on Monday. The girl, J. Nihitha, collapsed at home after returning from school. When her parents took her to a hospital doctors declared her brought dead.

The parents initially alleged that the school was responsible but later said they are unaware of the reason behind the death. No complaint was filed with the police.

Nihitha was the only daughter of J. Mallesh and Sunitha of Ibrahimpatnam in Ranga Reddy district. She was studying at the Vignan Integrated School in Nadergul village. On Monday evening she returned from school and after completing homework she was playing at home. Suddenly she collapsed and her parents rushed her to a private hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

While the family was taking her body for last rites they saw some scars on her back, hands and legs. They thought that she was beaten up at school and died due to injuries and decided to stage a protest against the school. “My daughter has injuries on her body. I don't know if she was beaten up by someone or something hit her. I am alone and my husband is bedridden. Now I have lost my only child also,” said a grief stricken Sunitha, Nihitha’s mother.

The school said that none of the teachers had beat her and that she was not injured at school. “There are CCTVs in the school and if she was beaten up it will be recorded. I heard that she had jaundice and was not given proper treatment,” said school correspondent J. Niranjan Reddy. But her parents said that Nihitha was healthy and had no health problems.
