Supreme Court okays Madras HC verdict on TNPSC members

On December 22, 2016 the high court acting on three petitions quashed a government order appointing 11 members to the (TNPSC).

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the Madras high court judgment sacking 11 members of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) and ordered a fresh selection to fill the vacancies.

A three-judge bench of Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justices D. Y. Chandrachud and L. Nageswara Rao observed that members appointed to the TNPSC should be persons of unimpeachable integrity and outstanding calibre and earn the respect and confidence of the people, as they are selecting persons for all posts including class 1 officers to administer the State.

Subburaj, S. Muthuraj, M. Sethuraaman, A.V. Balusamy, M. Madasamy, P. Krishna Kumar, A. Subramanian, N.B. Punniamoorthi and M. Raja Ram, IAS.
