Chennai: A sexagenarian woman was found dead in a case of murder for gain in Kanchipuram on Friday.

The woman, identified as Parvathi, 60, wife of Kanniappan from Musaravakkam reared cattle for a living. At around 6 am, she would take them to graze and would return by afternoon. On Friday, she took the cattle to Thirukuli lake but since she had not returned after sundown, her family panicked.

Their worries increased after their cattle were found near the street where they live. Kanniappan and some of their neighbours rushed to where she was grazing the cattle. There they found Parvathi dead among bushes with marks on her neck. Her earlobes having gold earrings worth half a sovereign were cut off and the gold chain on her neck, worth 2 sovereigns was taken too.

Kanniappan then approached the Baluchetty Chatram police station where a complaint was filed. Parvathi's body was then sent to the Kanchipuram government hospital for postmortem.

Baluchetty Chatram police approached the Kanchipuram superintendent of police office to take sniffer dogs to the spot. The dogs were able to identify the path which the assailants took after committing the crime. A special team has now been constituted to probe the case.
