Chennai: The Madras high court has said it will take DGP to task if there is any violation of its order or order of the Supreme Court in idol theft cases.

A division bench comprising Justices R.Mahadevan and P.D.Audikesavalu made the observation orally while hearing a contempt petition filed by A.G.Ponmanickavel, Special Officer and head of Special Investigation Team, which sought to punish the authorities for committing contempt of court by not complying with the directions of the court.

In his petition, Pon Manickavel alleged that the authorities were deliberately and willfully disobeying the order passed by the court by not providing the basic facilities for proper investigation of the cases by the SIT.

When the case came up for hearing, advocate Selvaraj, appearing for the petitioner raised 6 issues relating to the 10 directions issued by the high court and confirmed by the Supreme Court.

Directing the Government Pleader Jayaprakash Narayanan to note all the six issues and come out with a detail answer with materials, the bench posted to November 12, further hearing of the case.

When the counsel for the petition found fault with the appointment of Superintendent of Police, the bench said SP was only a subordinate officer. If anything in writing against this court order and order of the Supreme Court, it will take up the issue and render justice, the bench added.
