Mysuru: Local Bharatiya Janata Party leaders supported by the Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Bajrang Dal staged a protest in Virajpet on Thursday against the Kodagu district administration’s decision to hold Tipu Jayanti celebrations on Saturday.

Present at the protest were BJP MLA K.G. Bopaiah and  MLC Sunil Subramani. Daali, son of RSS leader Kuttappa, who was killed during  the Tipu Jayanti clashes in Madikeri in 2015,  recalled that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who had visited him following his father’s death, had promised to put a stop to the celebrations if he had the authority to do so.

“He should keep his promise by stopping the celebrations at least in Kodagu,” he added.

Local BJP leaders led by Member of Parliament Pratap Simha and others also plan to protest on Friday against the Tipu Jayanti celebrations planned in Mysuru on Saturday.

But the state government remains adamant on holding them with Kodagu district in- charge minister Sa Ra Mahesh asserting in Mysuru that all precautions had been taken to make sure they passed off peacefully in Kodagu.

The Mysuru city police too have taken all measures  for the celebrations,  deputing additional forces at all 10 checkposts of the city and  checking for the presence of any  suspicious elements in its lodges.
