Mysuru: For the first time in 36 year- history of Dasara poets’ meet, Pradhana Kavi Goshti, Jaganmohan Palace was packed to capacity as the audience listened to poets for four hours here on Saturday.

As many as 35 poets from different parts of the state recited their poems, focusing on issues like Cauvery and Mahadayi besides problems of women, soldiers and other sections of the society.

A noted author and film maker remarked “The participation of so many people is a good indication at a time when it is thought that poems are increasing and readers are decreasing.”

Poet Lalitha Siddabasavaiah said: “Unless the audience is truly interested, one can’t force them to sit for four hours.”

While the poets meet was organised at a time when the state was in distress, president of the meet Dr H S Venkateshmurthy limited his speech to reviewing poems recited at the event, and disappointed the audience by not speaking about Kannada, land and water or growing intolerance.  On Friday, children, youth, women and senior citizens recited poems at the event.
