Need to avoid water wars: N Chandrababu Naidu

Protecting farmers interest is top priority, says Chief Minister.

Kurnool: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said his government was thinking of devising a strategy to avoid water wars that may crop up with upper states in future. He said securing the interest of AP farmers was his prime concern.

Amid much fanfare, the Chief Minster participated in Jala Siriki Harathi programme at Muchumarri village in Nandikotkur assembly constituency of Kurnool district on Friday. 

The CM also switched on motors and inspected pump house of Machumarri lift Irrigation project. 

He said Polavaram project would be completed within the scheduled time, while promising that water security would be provided to every citizen of the state.

The CM said he would complete Pattiseema project and irrigation and drinking water problems in the state with completion of these types of several-newly constructed projects soon.

The CM said he has planning to make drought-free state with utilisation of water sources. They should encourage the farmers who utilise the irrigations schemes like drip and other less water utility schemes, he added. The government aim is to provide water sources to every acre in the state with construction of new irrigation projects, firm percolation tank, check dams and mini irrigations tanks, he said. 

He called upon the people to increase groundwater sources and stop rainwater at their village using of Neeru-Chettu programme.
