VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh electricity department employees have decided to go on indefinite strike from Wednesday night after talks with the government failed to resolve their issues.

The employees have been protesting for a pay hike and other benefits. They have been wearing black badges since the end of July and have been attending to their duties on a work-to-rule basis.

On Tuesday, the APSPE JAC leaders met with the government officials but the talks failed to reach a conclusion. The JAC has now decided to go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday night.

The government has also made security arrangements in Vijayawada in anticipation of the strike. 2,000 police forces have been deployed at Vidyut Soudha.

DCP Vishal Gunni said that the police are on high alert and that they will not allow any law and order problems to arise. He said that the police have invoked Section 30 of the Police Act and Section 144 of the CrPC in Vijayawada.
