Hyderabad: Renegade Naxalite, gangster and extortionist Mohammed Nayeemuddin was shot dead on Monday morning at Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar in a joint operation by the Dichpally police of Nizamabad, TS police, Mahbubnagar police and the Grey-hounds. The encounter followed a tip-off about his arrival.

Police said Nayeemuddin was on his way to visit a friend at Millennium Township in an SUV. Cornered by cops, he opened fire with an AK-47 rifle. In a 10-minute shootout, Nayeem sustained multiple bullet injuries on his chest and died on the spot. Nayeemuddin was wanted by the CBI in the sensational IPS official K.S. Vyas’ murder case as also the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case besides a horde of murder and extortion cases.

Cops told Nayeem to stop firing
Sources said, the police teams received a tip-off on his planned visit and quietly evacuated the Millennium Township on Sunday night. The team from Nizamabad was pursuing a tip-off from State Intelligence Bureau while investigating a recent extortion case booked in Dichpally police station.

A senior police official narrated the scene at the shootout between 8.30 am and 9 am. “The police party that was lying in wait for him noticed the car, a white Ford Endeavour, pulling in. As soon as the driver saw the policemen, he stopped the vehicle, got out, and started running away. Someone from inside the car wielding an AK-47 started firing at the cops. The cops shouted at him to stop firing, but he continued with it. Cops returned the fire. The man then got out and took cover behind the vehicle. As the police party approached, he ran a distance, hid behind a transformer and kept firing on the cops. Within a short while, cops managed to strike their target and he collapsed on the ground, bleeding. The police party then identified him as Nayeemuddin,” said the official. Police said Nayeemuddin collapsed near the gate of the Memory Park in Shadnagar. Apart from the AK-47 rifle, the police also found a pistol inside the car.

“Dichpally inspector V. Thirupathi came to Shadnagar pursuing leads about the suspect in an extortion case. There was an exchange of fire between the police and the armed group which had been indulging in extortions, kidnappings and land-grabbings. One suspect is dead and he was later identified as Mohammed Nayeemuddin AKA Nayeem AKA Balanna,” said Mahbubnagar SP Rema Rajeswari. She added that the Shadnagar police had booked a case under the Arms Act.
