Hyderabad: The Land Regularisation Scheme has helped the Telangana state government recover 150 acres of government land in GHMC limits.

The state government had announced LRS in 2015 under two categories.

In the first category regularisation was done free of cost for the poor for up to 150 sq. yd. In the second category, regularisation was done for plots over 150 sq. yd. by collecting money as per market rates in four instalments.

Besides, some applications that were pending since 2007, when the previous Congress government in the undivided state had launched LRS scheme, were also verified and rejected.

However, the verification of applications found that 673 applications seeking regularisation of nearly 150 acres were ineligible as the lands were meant for parks, roads, burial grounds, or were ceiling lands, belonging to the Central government or were disputed or under litigation etc.

The government has initiated the process to take over these lands by serving notices under the Land Encroachment Prevention Act.

Shaikpet mandal topped vis-a-vis the number applications that were rejected for regularisation.

While the government could recover 12 acres in first two categories of LRS, another 132 acres were recovered under LRS launched by the Congress government earlier.

The TS government had issued GO 58 and 59 for two categories of LRS, while Congress government issued GO 92.

Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, who holds the revenue portfolio, said the collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts were directed to resume these lands after serving notices.

“We have taken up mandal-wise verification of each and every LRS application and found that over 670 applications were unfit for regularisation. These lands will be taken back by following due legal process,” he said.

The government has rejected 375 applications under GO 58, another 160 applications under GO 59 and 242 applications under GO 90.

Special deputy collectors have been roped in to resume these lands.

Notices are being served under Section 7 of the Land Encroachment Act to those in possession of these lands.

Based on their response to these notices, the government will issue orders under Section 6 of the Act to resume these lands.
