A police press release said that if any member of public notices overcharging by any theatre, they can call 044-23452359.
Chennai: Following a high court order on a petition saying some cinema theatres are collecting admission fee beyond the permissible limit on tickets, the Chennai police on Friday said they have constituted a three-member team consisting of an assistant commissioner, commercial tax officer and revenue officer to monitor such complaints and take action against theatre owners. A police press release said that if any member of public notices overcharging by any theatre, they can call 044-23452359.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M M Sundresh had given a directive on ticket prices in March while disposing of a PIL by G Devarajan. The bench had said while it was not disputed that the maximum rate provided was Rs 120 , the only exception was IMAX theatres - in view of a G.O dated January 6, 2015 - where Rs 480 has been specified as the maximum. The petitioner had submitted materials to support the allegation that the general maximum limit of Rs 120 was being flouted.
