Chennai: Window cleaner falls off 10th floor of IT building, dies

Chennai: A young worker fell to death from the tenth floor while cleaning the glass facade of an IT building near Kathipara on Friday Thursday evening.

John Peter, 24 of Mylapore, had been employed at an IT firm in St.Thomas Mount for more than a year.  According to the sources, John was engaged to clean the glass facade on Thursday evening.  He wore headgear and also had a lifeline rope attached to the safety belt.

When he was hanging on to it and cleaning the glass, he felt that the belt was too tight for him and tried to loosen it even as he was hanging. As he loosened it too much, the belt came off, said police, He fell on his head and suffered multiple injuries on his body and died on spot. St.Thomas mount police registered a case. Police said,  “the necessary measures for workers’ safety seemed to be in place, but we are investigating.”
