Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation commissioner M. Dana Kishore on Tuesday said the corporation had chalked out an action plan lasting six months to enhance sanitation and other civic aspects in the city.

He said levying fines and seizing commercial establishments for their unhygienic conditions was not meant to show off but were intended to show that the corporation was taking the issues seriously.

Mr Kishore made surprise inspection at LB Nagar and said review meetings would be conducted at ward, circle and zonal levels.

He said awareness campaigns were planned where residential welfare associations, NGOs and self help groups would play an active role.

The corporation would seek suggestions from them on how to control problems such as residents releasing water on to roads, ban on plastic, role to be played by hotels, hospitals, temple authorities etc, duly creating awareness about these issues for citizens.

He said sanitation staff would be trained for further improvement. He said that the GHMC was concentrating more on SRDP works and planning to complete them in a time-bound manner for which regular inspections were being done every week.

The commissioner appealed to the citizens to work together for making the city clean and green. The GHMC is taking up raids on hotels and eateries not to trouble them but to improve living conditions in the city.

“There is every need to look into this with regard to water issues, a lot of care should be taken while dealing with water issues. Even the government is very keen to provide water to everyone keeping in view the vision for the coming 40 years. So every citizen must coordinate with officials and elected representatives while taking up civic issues,” Mr Dana Kishore said.

He said that the GHMC would take up the construction of one lakh 2BHK houses at a cost of Rs 8,500 crore in the city and all the work in progress and construction would be completed by the end of this year. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will take up all necessary basic minimum facilities at the 2BHK housing sites for the convenience of the beneficiaries to provide them with parks, playgrounds, drinking water, street lights, drainage and other civic works in an appropriate manner, the commissioner added.
