Bandh partial, peaceful in namma Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Despite the two-day bandh called by the central trade unions private buses, autos and taxis plied in many parts of the city.

However, buses run by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) were very limited.

They were plying in the morning, but later stopped services following protests.

However, the roads were more of less deserted as schools in Bengaluru were shut on Tuesday and the pre-university department has also reportedly postponed preparatory exams for  second year Pre-University students.

Exams postponed
Various universities, including the Bangalore University and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Visvesvaraya Technological University and Kuvempu University, have postponed their exams.

However, hospitals and information technology companies functioned as usual.

Trade unions took the rallies on the streets in various parts of the city. 

KSRTC forcedto stop buses
The transport department in Bengaluru made sure the Bharat Bandh didn’t affect Bengalureans. 

Although KSRTC operated skeletal services, the KSRTC officials stated that out of 3,384 services, 1,434 operated across the state till 9 am in the morning.

But later the KSRTC was forced to cancel 4,504 schedules which cover 18 lakh kilometres with Rs 5.40 crore of tentative revenue loss. 

But corporation was happy that flybuses were operated from Mysore to Bengaluru airport without any hindrance. 

Passengers who arrived in the city from other destinations had a harrowing time as there were few BMTC buses to reach their destinations. A BMTC source said only 40 per  cent services functioned in the first shift and later it came down to 20 per cent. 

There were reports of stone pelting on BMTC bus in some plance. 

Six buses were damaged and the loss was estimated to be around Rs 22,000.
