Bhopal: An accused in the rape and murder of a four year-old girl was on Saturday thrashed by some people while being produced in a local court in Mhow in Indore district.

A group of people chased and thrashed Ankit Vijayvargiya while he was being escorted by police for production in the local court in Mhow in the afternoon.

Police, however, saved him from the mob and led him to the court. The accused was produced in the court as his two-day police remand expired on Saturday.

The 27-year-old was accused of abducting, raping and then strangulating the girl to death.

He took away the victim when she was sleeping along with her parents in a makeshift house in Indore in the midnight of December 2 last year.

Police later recovered the body on the pavement of a building nearby.

Meanwhile, the Mhow Bar Association has unanimously decided that no lawyer will defend Vijayvargiya, Association president Ravi Arya told PTI.     — PTI
