Hyderabad: Frequent murders inside court premises and terror threats has raised doubts about the security arrangements in courts.

Five persons were killed and five others injured in trial courts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Delhi between April and September this year.

In 2016, the Al-Umma group had planned a series of blasts in court complexes in South India. It had planted bombs in the courts of Nellore, Mysore, Kollam and Chittoor. In 2011, a bomb exploded at the reception of the Delhi High Court.

The Indian courts have also witnessed incidents like throwing of shoes and other objects at trial court judges. 

The Bihar government had ordered the installation of electronic surveillance in courts in the state following a blast at the Ara court in Bhojpur district, 55 km west of Patna, on January 23, 2015. All courts followed the directive. 

Earlier this month, an undertrial was shot dead and bystanders were injured when criminals opened fire in a court in rural Patna. There were no surveillance cameras installed in the court when the incident occured. 

Following the violence during the Telangana movement in the premises of Hyderabad High Court, a division bench had ordered tightening of security systems. After the order, CCTVs and luggage scanners were installed. Armed personnel and guards were also posted at all the entrances of the High Court. The special protection force handles security at the High Court.
