Hyderabad: The GHMC spends Rs 10.20 crore every month for hiring vehicles. The corporation has taken on rent 300 vehicles from a private agency for its officers and every month shells out Rs 34,000 per vehicle as rent, diesel, bata and maintenance charges. This amounts to a massive Rs 10.20 crore. It costs the GHMC Rs 69,000 a month to meet Mayor Rammohan’s travel needs and Rs 34,000 for the Deputy Mayor.

The GHMC standing committee has already approved the proposal to purchase 20 vehicles including three swanky cars for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and GHMC commissioner at a cost of Rs 3.84 crore.

The proposal to purchase the new vehicles says, “At present, the GHMC owns 109 vehicles made in 2007. They have been allotted to GHMC officers. Most of the vehicles are old and frequently need repairs. It has been decided to buy three high-end vehicles for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioner and 17 vehicles for the seven additional commissioners, chief engineer and chief city planner.”
