Peacock hunting: Former Chikkajambur Gram Panchayat chief held

Mudasir managed to escape, but the residents took Aziz Khan back to the village.

SHIVAMOGGA: In a joint operation by officials of the Forest and Police Departments, Aziz Khan, a former president of Chikkajambur Gram Panchayat, has been arrested for hunting a peacock on the outskirts of Basavanandihalli village, Shikaripur taluk, on Friday night.

The Forest Department officials said the arrested, along with Mudasir, a nominated member of Shiralakoppa Town Panchayat, had hunted a peacock.
While they were carrying the dead bird in their four-wheeler, the residents of Basavanandihalli village intercepted their vehicle.

Mudasir managed to escape, but the residents took Aziz Khan back to the village, where he was arrested by the police. The rifle used for hunting and Khan’s four-wheeler were seized.

The body of the bird has been sent for post-mortem to Tyavarekoppa tiger and lion safari near here. Cases under various sections of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 have been booked against them.
