Kalpetta: 838 child abuse cases in one year

In the previous period 618 cases were registered at the Wayanad division of Childline.

Kalpetta: The institution to protect children from abuse and exploitation, Childline has received 898 cases from the Wayanad district over a period from 2018 April to 2019 March, the organisation said in a press release.

Elder people on behalf of the children or children gone through abuse themselves are approaching Childline seeking legal remedies for protection from abuses, exploitation, mental issues and seeking solutions for family issues.  Child line is also providing services in the cases like medical treatment, rehabilitation, counseling, physical-mental-sexual abuse, child labour, child marriage, finding missing children, extending supports to school dropouts, exposing drug abuse among children, sponsorship , punishment in schools and suspicious death of children.

Childline is coordinated by the Women and child development ministry of India and State social welfare department. Children can directly contact Childline authority with the toll free number “1098”.
