Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has followed the dictum ‘catch them young’ to protect nature. He has written an open letter to the schoolchildren inviting them to build a new Kerala. Addressing the children as ‘Dear friends,’ he asked  them to make the beautiful Kerala, blessed with forests, rivers, hills, ponds, river, paddyfields and Arabian sea,  more beautiful.

He wrote the letter on his website and the Facebook two days after observing the World Environment Day.

He called upon them to plant  more trees to get fresh air and water and not to throw away plastic bottles, plastic covers and  plastic wastes which will harm  nature.

He also advised them  to grow the vegetables required for their daily requirements and  conserve natural water bodies.

“Take a firm decision that we will not waste even a drop of water. You  need to grow up as good citizens with good habits and become a role model for the nation,”  he said.

Mr Vijayan  concluded the letter urging them to send him letters or post on the Facebook  giving  their names, addresses, opinions and suggestions.
