Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday ordered the vigilance department to raid bogus educational institutions, which are siphoning off crores of fee reimbursement funds released by the government to help students from socially and economically weaker sections pursue higher education.

Directing the finance department to release Rs 3,061 fee reimbursement arrears to colleges immediately, Mr Rao asked the officials to ensure that not a single rupee out of these funds was misused by bogus institutions. Mr Rao said several bogus institutions have mushroomed in the state with malafide intention of siphoning off fee reimbursement funds and they should be dealt with, with an iron hand.

“The earlier raids and investigations carried out by CID, Intelligence, ACB and Vigilance departments revealed large-scale irregularities by some educational institutions. Vigilance department should inspect all the colleges to find out whether they are genuine or bogus,” the CM told a review meeting at his camp office on the issue.
