Local leader arrested for cheating woman of Rs 6.4 lakh.
Hyderabad: A local BJP leader who cheated a woman under the guise of issuing a house under the double bedroom scheme of the state government and took Rs 6.4 lakh from her was arrested by the Banjara Hills police on Friday.
According to the complaint from Ms Puja Reddy, the accused Pradeep, a local leader of the BJP in the Indiranagar area, assured her that he could get a house allotted for her. Police said Pradeep claimed that he had contacts with senior leaders in the BJP through whom he would get the house allotted. He demanded money to get her work done, the complainant said.
Police said Ms Puja Reddy transferred the money. She waited for some time but she was not allotted a house. When she demanded her money back, Ms Puja Reddy told the police, Pradeep gave a fake document of a house to show that it had been allotted to her.
When she verified it with officials, she realized that she was cheated and approached the Banjara Hills police on January 12. Based on her complaint, the police investigated the case and arrested Pradeep on Friday.
