Lands allotted to institutions give no result

VIJAYAWADA: Around 2,911 acres of land worth Rs 11,584 crore handed over to the Union government for setting up institutions of higher learning in the state are lying idle for the last three years. Despite its readiness to provide lands and other requisites from the state’s end, AP could not see any progress in the movement of the files at the Centre.

The state government has allotted 566.61 acres land to set up IIT in Tirupati worth Rs 1,700 crore. For NIT, Tadepalligudem, 172.80 acres was allotted worth Rs 864 crore, and 241.50 acres to set up IIM, Visakhapatnam worth Rs 2,415 crore.

Another  255.09 acres of land, worth Rs 766 crore was allotted to IISER. Tirupati, 491.23 acres worth '492 crore to set up Central University at Anantapur, 201.54 acres worth Rs 2,016 crore for IIPE, Visakhapatnam, 110 acres worth Rs 550 crore for an Agri University at Guntur and  151.51 acres of land worth Rs 304 crore was allotted to set up IITDM, at Kurnool.
