Owaisi surrenders over attack on TRS, Congress workers; granted bail

It was alleged that AIMIM workers beat up Congress and TRS top leaders during the last hours of GHMC polling.

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi was on Monday granted bail in a case of an alleged attack on Congress workers by the AIMIM workers during the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

Earlier on Monday, he had surrendered before Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) V. Satyanarayana over the alleged attack.

Senior Congress leader Shabbir Ali on Wednesday filed a criminal case against Owaisi after AIMIM workers beat up Congress and TRS top leaders during the last hours of GHMC polling on Tuesday.

Owaisi has refuted all allegations, and instead, blamed the Congress for fuelling the confrontation.

AIMIM party workers and leaders ran amok on Tuesday across the Old City attacking leaders of various parties including Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali’s son Azam Ali and senior Congress leaders Uttam Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, and Ram Mohan Reddy.

The incident occurred when the Congress leaders were about to leave the Mir Chowk police station after the release of a Congress candidate on bail.
