Ooty: The Nilgiris district forest department here has opened a new chapter as  transgender joined duty as junior assistant for the first time in its annals.

S.Deepthi (21), hailing from Karamadai limits in Coimbatore, claimed that she is the first ever transgender to make to a job in the forest department in the state.  Stating that this is the new beginning for the transgender like here to look for opportunity to scale new heights in bureaucracy, Ms. Deepthi, a B.Com and CA graduate said that her childhood dream was to become an auditor but the destiny had other plans for her life.

“I got this job on compassionate grounds as my father Subramaniam who worked as forest guard in Periyanakanpalayam area in Coimbatore, died a decade ago.  Anyhow, now, I am a government servant and want to be an emulative for other third genders to follow” she added.

“All the third genders only want support from the society. The government should open new job opportunities for the third genders as that will bring them more respect in the society.  People should understand that the third genders are equally brilliant and given the chance, the third genders will prove their mettle in academics as well as in bureaucracy,” said Deepthi.
