Tirupati:13 red sanders smugglers and woodcutters held

The Task force sleuths reached the spot and arrested the accused.

The animosity between former smugglers and woodcutters and those currently involved in smuggling of red sanders have all been coming in handy for police to plan and execute raids to apprehend smugglers before they could move the logs to the neighbouring states.

Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh Red Sanders Anti Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) sleuths nabbed 13 smugglers and wood cutters and seized a SUV near Nilavarathi Kona forest area in Bheemavaram beat of Chandragiri Mandal near Tirupati.

According to RSASTF IG Dr M. Kantha Rao, on Thursday morning the combing parties nabbed two red sanders smugglers, while they were coming out of the woods near here.

On questioning, the nabbed duo later confessed to the combing parties about their crime and led them to the hideout where 11 more smugglers and wood cutters were present.

The Task force sleuths  reached the spot and arrested the accused. The arrested smugglers were identified as T. Chinnayyan, 40, L. Alagesan, 28, A. Elumalai, 37, P. Annamalai, 36, A. Kumar, 32, A. Annamala, 27, M. Magendran, 26, R. Alagesh, 36, A. Krishnamoorthy. 28, A. Rajamani. 32, A. Chinna Swamy, 35, V. Govinda Raj, 26, and K. Saravanan, 27. The nabbed 13 smugglers and wood cutters belong to various parts of Tamil Nadu.  RSASTF SP Ravi Shankar, DSP Venkata Ramana and others rushed to the spot and the combing parties were directed to continue the combing operations.
