Mysuru: While she was ill and in hospital, fans of  the late  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa donated a kavacha (mask) made of gold and silver, worth Rs 1.64 crore, to the idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord Anjaneya at the Chamundeswari temple atop the Chamundi hills to pray for her recovery over a month ago.

They also visited the temple several times and offered special poojas in her name over the past two months, according to temple sources. Ms Jayalalithaa herself was an ardent devotee of goddess Chamundeswari and visited Chamundi hills twice, once in 2006 and again in 2011. On her first visit she offered a golden daabu ( belt) and a saree to  the goddess.

Taking their cue from her, her supporters frequently visited the temple to offer a Mahapooja, Anna Dasoha and Belli Rrathotsava, whenever she was in distress.

For instance, special poojas were offered on the day the judgement was pronounced in the disproportionate  assets case against her on May 11, 2015, temple sources revealed.
