Karnataka High Court refuses to grant bail to Indian Mujahideen operative

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday refused to grant bail and suspend the order of a lower court sentencing Fakeer Ahmed, an Indian Mujahideen Operative, to life imprisonment.

A Mangaluru Court had convicted three people, including Fakeer Ahmed, for helping Indian Mujahideen founders Riyaz Bhatkal and Yasin Bhatkal, by sheltering and aiding them in preparing explosives for carrying out blasts in various parts of the country.

The lower court had sentenced Fakeer and others to life imprisonment. Fakeer has challenged the order before the High court and as an interim relief had sought for bail and suspension of lower court's order. However, the High Court rejected his please for bail.and suspended the order sentencing him to life imprisonment and grant bail.

He along with others were found guilty under Section 9(b) of Explosives Act, Section 5(b) of Indian Explosives Substances Act, Section 25 (A) (A) of Arms Act, Section 16, 17 and 18 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and Section 120 (B) of IPC.
