OOTY: The Ooty Town Public Awareness Association (OTPAA) and YMCA organized a function to observe Hiroshima Day on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. G. Janardhanan, president of the OTPAA said that the very mention of Hiroshima brought to mind the ill-effects of nuclear weapons and atom bombs. Sadly, even now the arms race was still on and many countries focus on projects to become nuclear powers. This is not a good sign.  The need of the hour is to develop a strong mindset among people across the world to bring an end to the production of nuclear arms, he added.

M.W. Jayaprakash, general secretary of the YMCA-Ooty, said that anger and developing enmity are the root cause for the eruption of wars between countries. It is up to the people to orient their minds towards peace to avoid war and the race for nuclear arms.

Speakers at the event used the occasion to stress on a war-free world. The organizers also organized an inter-religious prayer event to pray for  peace in the world.
