TIRUNELVELI: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said that all MPs, cutting across party lines from the state, should exert pressure on the Centre against the proposed disinvestment of the Salem Steel plant.

Interacting with media persons on his way to Tenkasi at Thoothukudi airport on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that he agreed with the Opposition party leader's suggestion that all the MPs from the state should join together to raise their voices in both the Houses of Parliament against the Centre's plan to privatise the Salem steel plant, as it is one of the vital projects providing jobs to thousands in the state.

"On issues like this, we should work together forgetting political animosities for the welfare of the state," added the chief minister, who also assured that his government would not give up its attempt to obtain exemption from Neet.

Further, reacting to the Centre's decision to impose an additional cess of Rs 1 on petrol and diesel, Edap-padi Palaniswami said that the budgetary announcement would impact a general price hike and added that TN would pressure the Centre to roll back.
