Bengaluru: As the state government teetered on the brink of collapse on Saturday after a spate of 13 resignations from the Congress and the JD(S), the BJP State President B.S.Yeddyurappa categorically denied any role by him or his party in destabilizing the H.D. Kumaraswamy government.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Yeddyurappa said, “Me and my party have nothing to do with political developments which unfolded today. I have heard through media that both Congress and JD(S) MLAs have resigned from their Assembly seats.”

The former chief minister said however that people were not ready a for mid- term polls and that mid-term polls are a burden on the state exchequer, raising the prospect of six months of Presidents Rule. “Being a responsible national party and a team of 105 MLAs, we will find a solution to the present political problems and situation”, Mr. Yeddyurappa said.  “BJP is closely watching political developments in the state. Once resignations of coalition parties MLAs are accepted and announced, we can take a decision after discussing with our party central leaders and MLAs”, Mr. Yeddyurappa said in reply to a question.

“If the situation arises we will definitely explore the constitutional provisions to form the next government”, Mr. Yeddyurappa added.  Earlier in a day, Mr. Yeddyurappa had attacked Water Resources Minister D.K.Shivakumar for trying to prevent his party MLAs from resigning.

“Mr. Shivakumar has torn the resignation letters of his party MLAs inside the Speaker’s office. People are watching his behavior, this attitude of Mr. Shivakumar will not bring respect to him, I strongly condemn his action”, Yeddyurappa said, as he went into a closed door discussion with his trusted loyalists at his Dollars Colony residence, with former MLA and BJP leader C.P. Yogishwar, loyalist of BSY camped at Vidhana Soudha, giving  him a blow by blow account of developments.
